Comparative Study on Initial Dissolution Rate of Acetaminophen Tablets
Oh Seaung-Youl

Abstract
We have studied the initial dissolution kinetics of 9 marketed acetaminophen tablets in simulated gastric fluid and pH 5.8 solution, and the dissolution profiles were compared. Dissolution for the first 5 minutes from tablet J was significantly faster (p<0.01) in all sampling points than the rest of the tablets, indicating that the fast releasing component of this sustained tablet rapidly dissolves in both medium. Tablet C also showed fast dissolution, when compared to others. Considering the point that acetaminophen is a drug for antipyretic/analgesic effect and rapid dissolution can be advantageous, it seems necessary fur some tablets to be improved fur foster dissoluton.
